The story is set in China after the Long March of Mao Tse Tung. In an effort to renew the country, and to eliminate waste, is ordered great battle against the birds exterminated the rice crop in the plains of the Yangtze River. Students and soldiers fought for days with stones and milk cans to scare the birds. These, exhausted for staying too long in the air without to rest, fell exhausted or drowned. Only a small bird arrived in the capital where, in a former monastery, was living the last of the imperial eunuchs. All other eunuchs had died and was left alone waiting to die.
The bird perched on the edge of his bowl of rice. The eunuch saw the color of bird feathers, the beautiful dresses of his former mistress. bird opens its beak with humble gestures and shoves in a grain of rice until the bird was satiated.
